Flanders Hydraulics Research delivers expertise to:
- improve the safety of the navigation;
- manage both water shortage and flooding in an effective manner;
- develop a safe, efficient and effective water-related infrastructure;
- manage the watercourses, coasts and harbours in a way which stimulates the economy whilst at the same time protects the environment.
Hydrodynamic research by Flanders Hydraulics Research focuses on coasts and estuaries. We study the tides, tidal currents, waves and saltwater intrusion using field measurements, physical model tests and numerical simulations.
Flanders Hydraulics Research promotes safe and efficient ship navigation to the Flemish ports and on inland waterways. Using state-of-the-art technology, we provide a scientific basis for the criteria applied to determine whether vessels may or may not be allowed on trajectories to Flemish ports and on inland waterways.
